These rolling scroll bars and ” breaking news” have become a part of our lives. When the term was frst introduced a few years ago it was used once in a while for “big” news only. Now for one we have these big news happening all the times, like there are bomb blasts everyday now. Secondly tens of our local news channels are “breaking news” all the time.
If there are major news stories like the Marriott blast or the attack on Sri Lankans then red lights of ” breaking news” are flashing on all the channels. If luckily there is no such sad event happening then our media likes to keep red lights flashing with a breaking news of some accident where a van slams into a truck. I do not mean to emphasis that human lives lost in an accident are less valuable than those lost in a bomb blast. But why can’t we have a breaking news of the Pakistani boy who scored 21 A’s in A-level exams. Our media should break some positive and motivating news or maybe no news at all because this continous bombardment of red lights on our tv screens drives us crazy.
We as a nation need a break from these “breaking news”!

This concept of “Breaking News” amazes me sometimes. For example, following are the actual breaking news that I have seen on TV:
“Light rain starts in Quetta”
“Traffic jam at Shahrah-e-Faisal Karachi”
“We will work hard to improve Pakistan: President Musharraf”
Do these news really deserve the status of “breaking news”??
