BRING SPORTS BACK TO SCHOOLS
“Ours were the times when there used to be no fat kids in school” We heard this from our parents and now being a young mother I wish to say the same. The inactive life style and wrong eating habits have made our children over weight. Now kids have no exercise and little games at school.
LIFE STYLE:
In Pakistan children always played in streets in the evenings but now parents have become extra careful and over protective. So children stay indoors which leaves few options for fun except sitting in front of TV or a computer. Watching cartoons frustrates their little minds, makes them aggressive and most importantly reduces their communication with friends and family.
EATING HABITS:
Experts blame diets rich in fat, salt, sugar and processed foods, and say that bad dietary examples set by their parents could also be to blame.
At birth, children in the study were the same weight as children born 25 years ago, the study found. But by puberty they had gained more fat compared to children of the same age in the 1980s. Most of the excess weight gain was put on before the age of five, they found. We should introduce healthy eating habits from a very young age and avoid packed and fried foods. Being over weight or obese is a mental torture for kids which can be avoided. FAT KIDS ARE NOT HEALTHY KIDS.
Along with healthy eating habits we can make best use of parks (which are all over our city – Islamabad. If schools bring the Physical Exercise and sports back then it will be a valuable contribution towards the health of our future generation.

Excellent post. I miss my own childhood where we would have so many options to do all kinds of sports, whether it was in Pakistan or in other parts of the world.
But I wouldn’t blame the parents entirely. Compared to those times, playgrounds are now a lot smaller and much more crowded, while the streets are busier and riskier for kids to play in.
Setting good eating habits does depend on parents however. Though we hated being fed dal-roti, salads etc., they’re now my favorites and alhamdulillah none of us is obese or suffering from serious illnesses.
Thanks for your comments. I agree with you regarding the apprehensions of the parents and not letting their kids play outside. This is why if schools lay emphasis on physical exercises then maximum benefits can be achieved with the satisfaction of parents.
Anyways our times won’t come back
