This beautiful ghazal came to may mind after a long time and I wish to share it with you all.This was written by last Mughal Emperor of Hindustan or India, Bahadur Shah Zafar, when he was exiled by British in Rangoon, Burma.

The sadness of the emperor who did not even  have a pen in prison is brilliantly sung by Mohammad Rafi. He has sung it with no music and you will be mesmerized by the combination, Rafi’s voice and Bahadur Shah’s words.

Tumse kia kahein janaan

Do we have the moments between us when silence talks louder then words? How often do we judge the other person’s reaction after saying something? How many of us have the free time to read the faces of our loved ones? Do we really  care to find the unsaid!

Neither do we have the time or the intention to spend quality time with the people who matter the most (even parents are included in this!). important chores, meetings , assignments, mobile phones, email alerts, text messages keep us occupied all round the clock….even during the sleep time. Unfortunately when we will grow old and look back the memory lane to cherish beautiful moments, there won’t be any!!!

Amjad Islam Amjad has this beautiful urdu poem on the same topic which I will share with you. Words were beautifully woven together and a translation cannot do justice to it.

Autumn in Islamabad

As the wind quietly changed, a slight chill has settled into its folds signalling that winter is waiting to creep upon us. Preparation of winter begins as our scenery changes colours! Summer trees are showing all shades of red, orange, yellow and brown. Its like our streets have changed costumes and this change is very pleasant  as autumn is the perfect pause between the opposing miseries of summer and winter. I simply love these changing colours and my camera fails to capture their beauty. You have to come to Islamabad to witness autumn and everyone should take time out to sit and watch the leaves turn.

Yun-hi to shaakh se pattey girra nahi kerty
ke bichar ke log ziada jiya nahin kerty!

Jo aaney waley hain mousam unhey shumaar main rakh

Eid ka chand

Chalo apni apni eid manayein….

A recreational cum religious activity for our maulanas takes place a few times every year where a scene is set and maulanas explore the skies. This is called “spot the moon” and whole of the nation looks from their eyes. They have the equipment and the met department to assist them but our moon controversy is here to stay.

All other issues haunting us like floods, drones and sialkot boys are put aside at such times and everyone is glued to the tv screens for the “moon” updates! My friend’s niece called from Kohat and asked “khala! aap ke tv pe chaand nazar aa gaya hai?” Kids who are usually not willing to share their cartoon time with us were ready to check news channels for the discovery of the eid moon. After hours of struggle we got the mubarakbad for 30th roza and KP for eid!

When a male is born in a Pakistani family, his birth is celebrated. He is loved and pampered by his mom and sisters. One day another female enters the life of this man and (in majority of cases) he fails to maintain a balance. Here is a life story of a typical male in our society.

Jab tu paida hua kitna majboor tha
Yeh jahan teri sochoun se bhi door tha

Haath paoun bhi tab tere apney na they

Q A B A R-(The grave) is our last destination. We keep on denying the fact that we have to die one day. On watching people around us departing for the final journey, we feel death is catching others only. We plan for hundred years and don’t know if we will for one more day to live. I am not being negative but thinking about the “end” keeps our perspective about life on the right track. Lets think about it once daily and buy some decorations and air conditioners for our final room, the grave.

Here is a poetic version of how the grave calls us everyday.
Karti Hai Rozana Ye Pukar,

Mujhme he Keede Makode Beshumar,

Picture is not so gloomy for the true and practicing muslims. I read an encouraging and interesting description of what will happen to the good and bad people once their life in this world ends. If you are scared of the grave then u have to read this. Allah is the kindest, Subhan Allah.

The Messenger of Allah (p.b.u.h.) said,
“Seek Allah’s protection from the punishment of the grave since punishment of the grave is a fact/true.” (Sahih: At Tabarani in al Kabeer from Umm Khalid Bint Khalid Ibn Sa’eed Ibn al ‘Aas.)

The Messenger of Allah (p.b.u.h.) said,
“Verily the grave is the first stopping place for the Hereafter; so if he is saved therein, then what comes after is easier than it. And if he is not saved there from, then that which comes after is harder.” (Hasan: At Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, al Hakim: from Uthmaan)

It is reported also in theSahihof Muslim that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“When any one of you completes the lastTashahhud, he should seek refuge with Allah from four (trials): the torment of Hell, the torment of grave, the trial of life and death, and the evil of the trial of al-MasikhAd-Dajjaal(Antichrist).”

Home remedies for common ailments are very interestingly summed up in an urdu poem by an unknown writer. It covers everything from cold, indigestion, fatigue, sore throat to tooth ache and  weakness.

Let me explain the title which is in urdu language. Tandrusti is health and mashwarey means suggestions so here are some valuable suggestions for staying healthy.

Jahan tak kaam chalta ho ghiza(food) sey
Wahan tak chahaye bachna dwa(medicine) sey

Agar tuj ko lagey jarey(winter) main sardi
To istimaal ker anday(egg) ki zardi

Jo ho mehsoos medey(stomach) main geerani
To pee ley soonf ya adrak ka paani

Agar khoon(blood) kam baney balgham ziayada
To kha ley gajjar, channey, shaljam ziayada

Jiggar key bal pe hai insaan jeeta
Agar za’af -e-jiggar hai kha papita (papaya)

Jiggar main ho agar garmi dahi kha
Agar aantoun(intestines) main khushki ho to ghee kha

Thakkan se houn agar uzalaat (organs) dheelay
To foran doodh grama garam pee ley

Jo taqt main kami hotio ho mesoos
To misri ki dali multan ki choos

Ziayada gar damaghi hai tera kaam
To kha ley shehad(honey) ke hamra badaam

Agar ho qalb ki garmi ka ehsaas
Murabba aamla kha aur ana-nas(pine apple)

Jo dhukhta ho gala nazley ke marey
To kar namkeen pani ke ghararey

Agar hai dard se dantoun ki be-kal
To ungali sey masooroun per namak mal

Jo bad-hazmi main chahey tu aafaqa
To do ek waqt ka ker ley tu faqa!!!!

Yun lagta hai jaisey tum se ab tak khuli nahin hai dunya

Bhag rahi hai gaind (ball) ke peechey, jaag rahi hai chaand ke neechey
Shor bhareu kaley na’aroun se ab tak dari nahi hai dunya!!!
