“Khawab hotey hain dekhney ke liye

In main ja ker magar raha na karo ! ”

A poet said the above verse in urdu language but he may not know that “money” can buy dreams and Angelina Jolie’s gift on Brad Pitt’s birthday is an example of that! Remember those days when men used to promise impossible gifts like stars for their loved ones but todays’ lovers do have the monetary power to bring such dreams to reality. This time its not a man who has given an unconventional gift but a lady!

Angelina Jolie, the actress-director, 36, purchased a waterfall and surrounding land in California as Pitt’s combined Christmas and 48th birthday present, in order to provide him with the property for his dream home.

A source told the New York Post newspaper: “Brad has always loved Fallingwater and his first trip there was unforgettable. Angelina wanted to get him something incredibly special and, because she knows how much he loves architecture, she thought this would be perfect.

“She hopes this will be a hideaway for the family. Brad has dreamed of a home with the sound of a waterfall cascading under the house.

“Brad has always wanted to design his own house. He wants to pull all aspects of nature, light, glass and varying levels into the concept. This is the present to top all presents.”

A thrilled Pitt is now planning to embark on an ambitious and exotic building project emulating the design of Lloyd Wright’s 1939 masterpiece Fallingwater, which was built in Pennsylvania on a similar piece of land. The pair visited the house in 2006.

Lets see which other celebrity follow her or match in such unique expression of love!

Teenage girls should eat healthy

Teenage used to be that part of our lives when we had no health issues, not even common cold! Now the teenage girls are facing tremendous pressure to stay slim from a very early age. At an age when they require to build the foundation of a healthy adult life they are ignoring a balanced diet to eat less and stay slim. They are condemning themselves to a lifetime of ill health by eating fewer than three servings of fruit and vegetables every day.

Experts warn that image-obsessed girls tend to avoid healthy breakfast and meals to try to stay slim and deprive themselves of vegetables and meat. They are also shunning meat, depriving themselves of essential nutrients such as iron, and eating far too much saturated fat. But when they get hungry later they fill up on crisps and chocolate bars which are high in saturated fat.

Health officials have warned that teenage girls are facing the risk of illnesses like cancer, heart disease, strokes and diabetes in later life by eating fewer than three servings of fruit and vegetables every day. According to a report backed by the UK Department of Health, just one in13 teenage girls eats the recommended “five a day” portions of fruit and vegetables.Almost half do not eat enough iron, an essential nutrient found in red meat, nuts and some vegetables that helps fight infection. Read More.

Teenage girls who starve themselves or binge and purge do not eat enough calories and risk nutritional deficiencies resulting in anemia, irregular menses and poor bone development. A healthy diet for a teenage girl looks much like that for an adult, but because she is still growing, nutritional balance and establishing good habits are even more important.

Unhealthy eating habits develop over time. Sometimes, if a child does not have a healthy example to model themselves after, poor habits develop. Families should sit together and eat their meals like good old days. Now each child picks up a burger or a plate and sits in front of his/her computer to eat , which is extremely wrong.

Teen nutrition is known to be a genuine challenge because fast food seems to govern everything. For instance, if a child has an eating disorder, fast food can exacerbate his/her problem. Junk food ads may provide teenagers with conflicting images about what they must eat or not. Parents should help them to make the healthiest choices because their health is at stake.

Teenagers should be disciplined in their eating habits too. They should eat on time and avoid the practice of skipping meals. Otherwise when they are very hungry they tend to eat more then required and make wrong choices of food. It is always a must that foods served at the table should as much as possible include all essential nutrients so that every family member gets the energy and health that they need for the day.

Parental influence is key to good eating, as teenage girls and boys slip into bad eating habits once they have more freedom.

Watching thin girls in the media, men look for a slim girl to marry. In order to meet this criteria girls are pressurized even by their parents to stay slim. Staying slim is not bad, not at all but girls should be healthy and slim. These starved and anemic girls will not be able to bear healthy children in future. As girls have the responsibility of bearing children at some point in their lives so they should be extra careful in choosing their food! Staying healthy is more important then aiming for a size zero…

In our busy morning routines, we bath, brush and comb. Majority of ladies take care of their faces by moisturizing them and making them up. Hands are also often taken care of BUT feet are the most neglected part.

Our feet are the load bearers and shock absorbers of our body. During harsh winters of our country feet are mostly covered and when they come out in the summers they are carelessly used. Slippers and sandles expose the feet to sun, dirt and injuries. Unattended feet with cracked heels are a common sight in otherwise dressed up ladies!

Please give extra attention to the feet and pamper them because this is the only pair we are going in get in our lifetime! Here are a few simple tips for taking care of our feet during summers. You can at least repeat these steps once daily before going to bed or may be on the weekends if you are as lazy as me :s

Wash and clean your feet everyday using warm water and soap.

Exfoliate or scrub (pumice stones on wet skin, foot files on dry skin) to avoid excessive build up of dead skin if you do not have it already!

Apply moisturizers whenever possible. Dry feet become dirty easily.

If you have cracked heels, soak for 10 minutes, exfoliate, and apply thick moisturizer like petroleum jelly or my home made moisturizer and then repeat daily until your skin become soft in a few days.

Don’t wear the same shoes every day. Shoes need about 24 hours to completely dry out from the last time they were worn.

When you’re wearing tight shoes, foot perspiration can be a problem. Wash feet frequently.

Pamper your feet (at least once a week) by soaking and massaging.

Even if your sandals are adorable, they aren’t worth it if they’re giving you blisters! Make sure you wear appropriate shoes for the occasion, and ones that fit – even if you think you have big feet, it’s not worth it to try and squeeze them into a shoe that is smaller than what they need.

Lastly, my home made moisturizer which works wonderfully in summers and on the dry winter skin too! Its as easy as 1 2 3 ….you just have to mix 3 liquids in equal quantities and preserve in a bottle. Apply generously every night.

Recipe for the home made moisturizer: Take lemon juice (fresh) , glycerin and rose water in equal quantities and mix well. Store in a closed bottle and keep refrigerated and you can easily prepare more once your supply finishes! Try it!

After all these efforts you will be rewarded with beautiful feet this summer!

Where are Pakistani advertisement agencies? Are there any? Why can’t they make their own adds, using Pakistani models? I am sick and tired of watching Katrina Kaif selling shampoos and soaps on our Tv screens. Honestly speaking I refrain from buying those products which have Indian models.

The reason for thinking this way is not my hatred for India. Reason number one is the vulgarity and nudity of the adds of lux, Pantene, Veet and even Slice (a juice) forces us to use the remote control every time there is a commercial break. Such show of skin is against our culture and this is a disgrace to all women. They have used her body as a commodity and it seems they are selling her instead of the product.

What these multi nationals ought to know is that we would like to buy a shampoo showing Shahid Afridi’s hair or biscuits with beautiful Mahira instead of going for a juice Katrina sells!!!

The way in which Katrina acts (or is made to act) in addition to being highly seductive, is utterly disgusting. These ads are highly inappropriate for any group of our Pakistani population. There is simply no purpose to them except to pollute the minds and arouse desires uncalled for.

The owners of these products have to understand that they have responsibility towards the society as a whole along with earning higher profits i-e to sell their product in a modest and decent way even if they wish to use foreign models or buy ready made adds. Be creative, there are uncountable interesting ways to sell things ….check out Ufone ads, surf excel ads and grow out of these cheap short cuts which ruin the morals of the whole society.

If these shampoos and other commodities are meant for average Pakistan women then huge investments in these ad campaigns is causing headache and embarassment to us all because unfortunately these pictures are splashed all over the city too.

Please raise your voices if you do not want to see these immodest and cheap acts of moderanism. You have to make yourself heard! Raise your volume! Aj nahi bolo gay to kal bhughto gay!!

People say that Hina Dilpazeer gets all the brilliant roles but I disagree….she makes them brilliant by performing so well. From her first role in ‘ Barnas road ki Nilofar‘ till ‘bulbalay‘ she hits a sixer every time. Pakistani drama has got an ace in the form of Hina Dilpazeer.
After Burnas Road ki Nilofar and the unprecedented success, offers and
opportunities, there’s been no looking back for her. Madam Rizwana and Baby
Shabana, Bichhu Phuppi, Veena and momo, to name just a few, are just some of Hina’s best work on television. The reason of such powerful performances in her own words are :

“I have always wanted to live many lives in this one life; lives of the rich,
the impoverished, the disabled and even the blessed. Any interesting person who catches my attention, I try and enter his or her world through my imagination, curious to know how I would feel in their situation. I have always been like this, I would get told off for what appeared to others like I was imitating them but in reality I was so deeply absorbed in a fascinating character that I would be subconsciously following mannerisms, gestures and gait. I always wanted to become the medium to deliver those feelings, sensitivities and stories to audiences.”

Watching ‘Shakoor Sahib’ I felt her versatile acting skills gives a writer the freedom to adopt and conceive roles no one has ever done before on pakistani tv. She has also shattered the stereotype and set the ball rolling for character actresses who share the spotlight with the lead pair and are just as popular with the viewers. Rarely does the ‘size zero’ and ‘make up’ obsessed media allow a female to play such diverse roles with such freedom!

Hina Dilpazeer has the ability to grab all the attention in the drama. Amazing thing is that one goes not get to know the real Hina Dilpazeer in any of these roles. When I first saw her giving an interview I was quite surprised to find that she is a groomed, decent and educated lady who looked and sounded completely different from all her acts. Good job Hina!

Its an early Mausummery Exhibiton in Islamabad this year. Any why not? Lawns are raining and reigning from all directions.

Mausummery lawn will be exhibited in Islamabad on 5th, 6th and 7th April 2011 at Marriot Hotel. The hall is packed with ladies as usual and they are buying at a pace which frightens me as if they are hoarding lawn this summer. Everything around us is getting dearer and so is the clothing.

The price of a 3 piece suit is Rs. 1650 + 500 for the embroidery if u want it.

Price of 2 piece suit is Rs 1100 + 500 for embroidery if…

Mausummery lawn print 2011

They are not selling piece but you will get it only for the suits if their shalwars are finished!!

The thing I liked about mausummery in the past was that you can buy fabric more or less than a shirt piece and there was no need to buy 3 piece suits. But this time they have packed the suits and are not ready to cut more cloth if one needs to have a longer or a bigger shirt!

Anyways the prints are fabulous and colour combinations are attractive. Prices are higher than last year still people are buying because of the quality of their fabric or maybe the other brands have even higher prices!

Do not miss this exhibition. I would love to have a at least one mausummery suit in my summer wardrobe.

Today on the “World Autism Awareness Day” I would like to share that observing an autistic child has been a learning experience for me. When I met him first he refused to shake hands and make eye contact. Treating him like any other child and being an ill-informed person on the subject it took me weeks to realize he is different. Until that time he became quite upset and aggressive.

He got admitted in my preschool group when he was not even three years old , I treated him like an ordinary baby. He hardly spoke a word and was like a free spirit who did not listen, respond and did not follow any directions. When I discussed his behavior with the mom she completely denied everything. Parents here in Pakistan like to be in a state of denial and I fully sympathize with them but we as responsible adults have to take up the matter more practically. As I read more about autism I seem to love, care and protect him more.

“Autism is a developmental disorder that appears in the first 3 years of life, and affects the brain’s normal development of social and communication skills.”

My personal observation about an autistic child are:

He rarely makes an eye contact or maybe not at all.

Difficulty in social communication.

He keeps on repeating what you say or tell.

Learns everything orally and quite quickly but with no understanding of the concept.

Smiles and cries for no reason.

Aggressive towards other children.

Has started following the daily routine quite nicely like saying ‘salam’ to each child every morning, eating his lunch himself, etc.

Lives in a world of his own and does not participate in group activities.

He has learnt names and recognize people but does not talk to them.

He is four and half years old now and I wished that someone guided me on teaching techniques for such children. Parents living in Islamabad do not have much of a choice if they do not want to label their child as abnormal or special. So they are forced to put them in normal schools. Today on geo tv I heard a speech therapist giving a useful information. She said making them follow instructions and so things is easier if you use pictures, especially their own pictures. She further said these children have a strong sense of time as they know when they eat or sleep without watching a clock.

Signs of Autism

Some physical and environmental factors limit the available nutrients to the brain and body and create additional stress to chemical pathways.Routine blood work often fails to identify the problem. Biomedical testing can determine more specific abnormalities so the appropriate treatment can be determined. Father of an autistic child says,

“By just following the results of the food allergy test, where only low level of reactivity was reported in wheat and sugar, I just minimized these two elements from the environment under the supervision of our food nutritionist in Pakistan and within 15 days I have witnessed that my son has started to sit calmly for short noticeable time spans and his impatient violent movements also started to appear to have slightly eased out. Even this change has also been acknowledged by the special school.

After the receipt of the Gluten / Casein Peptide test report we plan to initiate comprehensive follow-up in the light of other reports with the help of our nutritionist and I am sure that the little progress signs witnessed in my son are quite encouraging and my son will soon be a part of normal life. Any parents of an ADHD / Autistic child in Pakistan can get in touch with me to have first hand feel of my personal experience through my cell No 0092-300-8414169.”

New Theory links autism with fever. Read more.

We are having an early summer this year as the sun is shining brightly. Midday is getting hotter everyday. Numerous Brands are offering lovely lawn prints. I am giving you a sneak peep at some of the lawn brands in our market this year 2011. We have amazing choices this summer for very high prices of course!

Asim Jofa lawn 2011:

Asim Jofa Lawn 2011 is nice, different and original! This is the first time I have seen Asim Jofa’s lawn. The suits have lovely chiffon dopattas. The price range is from Rs. 2600 to Rs. 3800. As the exhibition is over I do not think its available anywhere in Islamabad. (Correct me if I am wrong)

Sana Safinaz Lawn 2011:

Anyone can fall in love at the first sight with this collection. Unique is the word to describe their summer 2011 lawn ! The price ranges from Rs. 3800 to around Rs 4300. ( I have seen people are selling them in black market for Rs 5000!!! Amazing )

Sobia Nazir Lawn 2011:

Sobia Nazir has designed yet another amazing summer lawn collection. She has a range of formal to casual designs and long to short shirts too. Its for the people who are bored of the long A line shirts and those who love to experiment. The price ranges from Rs. 2600 to Rs 4000. You can get it from her outlet in Jinnah Super F-7 and at her house too… Check the complete range on facebook.

Bonanza lawn2011

Bonanza Lawn2011:

This was the first lawn exhibition in Isloo so we all rushed to get a look at the fresh print and what a disappointment it was! Everything from the fabric to prints and colours is not impressive. Price range is around 3600 to 3800 which is quite high for the sort of Quality they are offering. Bonanza lawn is still available at Kapas in F-10 and at their outlet in SuperMarhet f-6.

I missed out on vlawn by Vaneeza but a friend told me it was also around Rs 3000 and she has an impressive collection too.

Me being a loyal Mausummery Lawn customer will wait for the their exhibition in Islamabad. They have displayed their new lawn 2011 prints in their store in Lahore and their suits ranges from Rs 1650 to Rs 1700. If you can then rush to Lahore as today was their first day otherwise lets wait for the Islamabad Exhibition.

Thanks to Facebook all the above brands have their pages….check out the whole range. Good luck to all the well dressed ladies of Islamabad.

Newsweek Pakistan has compiled a list of 100 Pakistani Women who according to them are the ‘shakers’ of Pakistan. But they have missed out people like Mehreen Jabbar(Film and tv director), Maleeha Lodhi(Seasoned diplomat) and many more powerful women in Pakistan.

One conflicting lady is Sania Mirza whom I think cannot and should not be included in this list unless she becomes a Pakistani citizen.

Newsweek writes :

“From Fatima Jinnah to Rana Liaquat Ali Khan to Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan has produced some very remarkable women. Today, they are bankers, businesswomen, activists, artists, sport stars. From a pool of almost 350 women, here’s our list of the 100 women who matter most.

Roshaneh Zafar
Inspired by Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus’s work at Grameen Bank, Roshaneh Zafar, 42, ditched her World Bank career to set up Kashf Foundation, Pakistan’s first microfinance institution, in 1996. She started with a $10,000 loan from the Grameen Trust, Rs. 100,000 of her own, and 15 clients. Today, Kashf has more than 306,000 clients, and has disbursed more than $202 million in small loans to poor women. Kashf made Forbes’s list of the world’s top microfinance institutions in 2007, and U.S. President Barack Obama acknowledged her work at the inaugural Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship last year. “The women I meet tell me, ‘don’t tell us about water sanitation projects, tell us how to earn a living,” Zafar says. In setting up Kashf, she moved away from conventional development projects to help women finance their own empowerment.

Um-e-Hassan, the wife of Lal Masjid’s chief cleric, Maulana Abdul Aziz, came to national prominence four years ago as head of Jamia Hafsa, the mosque’s seminary for women which was leading the charge to have Shariah laws imposed in Pakistan. The protests and actions of the burqa-clad students in Islamabad got the attention of the world—and the Army. At least 84 lives were lost when commandos finally stormed the Lal Masjid compound in July 2007. A native of Rawalpindi, Hassan cites the Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him) and his wives Khadija and Ayesha as inspirations. She began religious instruction for women shortly after her marriage to Aziz in 1985. “Women are very important because they have the most influence on their children,” she told Newsweek Pakistan. “For a good society, you need to work hard on the education of women.” Hassan says she imparts a positive message to women in her lessons, “Women shouldn’t think they have no role in society. They are wives, sisters, mothers, daughters.” Hassan says she has never urged any of her followers toward violence, and that the reform of society is the responsibility of religious scholars operating with the authority of the state. One model, she says, is the Saudi religious police, the Mutaween. “When we see injustice and wrong in society,” Hassan says, “it is our duty to at least point it out and tell people that this is wrong. This was our position back then, and this is our position now.”

Veena Malik

park and Provocateur

She says she is 27. Veena Malik, the actor, comedienne, and cultural lightning rod, says and does a lot of things that prompt a double take and require suspension of disbelief. Pakistanis remember her from such hits as “cricketer Muhammad Asif stole my heart—and my money!”; “Meera should watch her back”; and, of course, last year’s Bigg Boss on Indian television that had Pakistan—and India—aghast, more because of her desperate determination to hog the spotlight rather than anything real saucy or salacious. For the finale, after she was voted out of the Bigg Boss house, Malik appeared on Frontline with Kamran Shahid in Pakistan taking on a mullah in a highly scripted, and spirited, performance that had Pakistan’s pathetic Internet liberals hailing her as their new hero. The debate surrounding Malik’s TV antics have served to further confirm the poverty of the liberal elite and the hypocrisy of the religious right.
