Facebook banned
A timely decision…I am glad that our government took this action to show solidarity with the cause.
Facebook proved to be a wonderful medium for locating people and staying in touch with them regularly but this is how people misuse things and create problems for all.
The News states….
“LAHORE: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked Facebook over a competition encouraging its users to post caricatures of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) on the social networking site.
Earlier in the day, the LHC ordered authorities to block Facebook until May 31..
The depiction of any prophet is strictly prohibited in Islam as blasphemous and Muslims across the world staged angry protests over the publication of satirical cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed in European newspapers in 2006.
Controversy erupted in the conservative Muslim country last month when a Facebook user set up a page called “Draw Mohammed Day”, inviting people to send in their caricatures of the Muslim prophet on May 20.
The move angered thousands of young people and Muslim faithful in Pakistan, unleashing an online campaign and isolated protests that grabbed the government’s attention and the controversial page was blocked on Tuesday.
But a group of lawyers went a step further Wednesday and petitioned the court to order a blanket ban on Facebook in Pakistan.
Justice Ejaz Chaudhry of the Lahore High Court directed the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) to block Facebook until May 31, when the court will open a detailed hearing into the case.
The PTA Director told the court the government has already blocked the particular link. About complete ban, he said internet services could face problems if the complete website was banned.
However, the court ordered complete ban till May 31.
A large number of religious clerics, students and lawyers were present in the courtroom.”

Its really a very good step taken by our authorities I suggest them to blocked face book permanently to create an example for being a great Muslims across the world and to show our love towards our Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W)
today i m very happy because face book permanent blocked
The government should’ve intelligently blocked the pages which are hurtful to Muslims rather than cracking down on a very important medium of communication. And banning youtube and restricting access to wikipedia etc is only going to hinder the students who use these for research and learning. If someone misuses these website, its their own headache they will have to answer on the Day of Judgement.
I am with everyone on the point of blocking facebook till 31st May. But dialogue should be started with facebook authorities and it should be unblocked after 31st as in this day and age one cannot possibly keep in touch with everyone over cellphones!
I totally agree with the discussion of blocking facebook.
Saba – Yes it’s their headache they will have to answer on the Day of Judgment but it’s really our responsibility to guide all the Muslims toward the right path – it’s totally good to block face book or any other such site that has anything against our religion. Remember we can even give our life for Hazrat Mohammad (SAW) so we will definitely appreciate the decision of blocking facebook. I totally appreciate with the PTA’s decision of blocking Face Book. It should remain blocked until those contents are removed.
Moreover there are many other ways of staying in touch with friends and family for example – we can use Yahoo! or orkut etc.
i agree any one who try to come at wrong side to our beloved prophet mohamed to take action from him and block their websites i dont know how they dare to draw the prophet and iam surprising why other muslim goverment not to block these site
i m so glad that facebook, youtube is banned in pakistan i wish our government blocked it permanently we don’t need such media who don’t cares for our holy prophet’s respect
@Ahmed: please write MUHAMMAD in capital…
In Pakistan, new websites are starting online every next day. But the point is that they are not well distributed. Most of the investors start waiting for new opportunities coming just after launch of their brand new website, which is not possible. They do not realize that they need to advertise their website. Registering your business in yellow pages is the most effective way to do this. There are few Pakistan business listing working out there and YPP is one of them. It is free to register and publish your business.
I’m not surprised that they blocked Facebook in Pakistan, and I don’t think that they want to start new brands and make them popular in their country. Maybe most of you don’t know but Facebook is a very important locating people tool. And as we all know Pakistani people don’t want to be tracked. So that’s my opinion about this block of Facebook.
I disagree with your opinion, Kev!
Maybe you are talking about a small minority who do not want to be tracked. Please ask for exact number of pakistani users of facebook and you will realize how popular it is in our country. I am one of the user and do not care if someone somewhere in the world wants to track me!
