“Some eleven dead bodies have been retrieved so far from the rubble of the fire gutted collapsed portion of Ghakhar Plaza building, saying 7 persons were still missing while 63 sustained injuries in this catastrophe.

A fire that broke out in six-storey Gakhar plaza of Rawalpindi at 2:45 am on night between Friday and Saturday  destroyed more than 400 shops (shops of cosmetic, jewellery, garments and shoes were present there).  It engulfed the entire building through electricity wires and fire was hard to control. Rescue 1122, fire brigade (Bahria town, KRL, CDA), Army contingents, Military engineers and ordinary people participated in the efforts to control the fire.”

I was shocked to see a part of the building collapse and it made me wonder, What is going on? Who is incharge of our cities? Are we prepared to handle any sort of crisis? We hear these fires happening in different cities regularly but in almost 99% of the events fire fighters fail to control it. We witnessed fire in Karachi on the same day, one is Peshawar, Moti Bazaar, Lahore ,Karachi…. in past months. But in all these events including the fire after the Marriot blast resulted in a complete collapse of the building.

Maybe we no longer value life and living or maybe it has become a routine for us living in Pakistan to hear the death count everyday, in one event or the other. I wish we take care of people around us.
