bachey ki dua from Baang-e-dara
When I wrote two posts about urdu nursery rhymes, I should have started with ”Lab-pe-aati” by Allama Iqbal. Today is Allama Iqbal’s death anniversery and I do not have the words to pay tribute to this great poet. I will just write this amazing poem which he wrote for kids. I still have memories of standing in assembly, at school, singing lab-pe-aati every morning.
Bachey ki dua ( From Baang-e-dara)
Lab pe aati hai dua ban ke tammana meri
Zindagii shamma ki soorat ho Khudaya meri
Door dunya ka merey dam se andhaira ho jaye
Her jagha mere chamakney se ujala ho jaye
Ho mere dam se un-hi mere wattan ki zeenat
Jis tarah phool se hoti hai chamman ki zeenat
Zindagii ho meri perwaney ki soorat ya Rab!
Ilm ki shamma se ho mujh ko muhabbat ya Rab!
Ho mera kaam ghariboun ki himayat kerna
Dard manddon se zayeefon se mohabbat kerna
Mere Allah! burayee se bachana mujh ko
Naik jo rahh ho iss rah pe challana mujh ko
