Pakistan was still mourning the people killed in the plane crash when floods started taking lives. 800 people (so far) has been killed and thousands left  homeless in the deadliest such disaster to hit the region since 1929.

Three days of heavy monsoonal rains across the northwest caused scores of rivers to burst their banks, tearing down 60 bridges and scores of roads and buildings. Hundreds of villages and towns, along with massive swaths of agricultural land, were under several feet of water. Rushing water also has washed away thousands of acres of crops and dozens of government buildings, local businesses and schools.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has been the worst hit. Boats and helicopters are struggling to reach hundreds of thousands of villagers cut off by floods. Various towns and districts are cut off from the main roads. People are trying to hold on to their loved ones and reach a dry safe where food is available. Others are trapped on their  roof tops and are waiting for rescue or relief.

Pakistan’s weather bureau said an “unprecedented” 312 millimetres (12 inches) of rain had fallen in 36 hours in the northwest but predicted only scattered showers during coming days.
A united and organised effort is required again by the Pakistani nation when thousands of people are dying of hunger and lack of shelter. Lets join our hands and help our fellow pakistanis in need. People will give away zakat as the month of Ramadan is approaching then why not give it now. “Poor” of flood effected areas are now “homeless”. They deserve our zakat, sadaqat and help more then the street beggers.
