1st October is the day when we all will reverse our clocks. Moving the small hand of our clocks one hour behind will relieve a lot of people. I have noticed people asking “pooraney time ya naye time se aana hai?” months after the change too!
The Federal Government has decided to restore the previous time by moving the clocks backward by one hour from October 1. PEPCO claims to have saved up to 300 to 350 MW electricity under the daylight saving time.
For the majority of Pakistanis the torture of addition, subtraction is finally over. I have a friend living in KSA, when she came here in summer vacations, she too used the “poorana time” for her dealings. I wonder why? Why can’t we make our lives simpler and easier by following the rules and accepting the change. But Pakistanis love to resist the change!

i dont think pakistanis resist change…infact they are always desperate for a CHANGE …anyway ..i was wondering that if government had plans of torturous loadshedding and people have been left with no electricity almost for the whole day then why this ritual of moving clocks forward and backwards?????
I do believe that people here resist change and interpret it as inconvenience. On the other hand, these one-hour-advanced clock timings were very convenient for a lot of people as well; as many people were able to reach comfortably at home before as’r and enjoy leisurely prayers followed by tea-time with family which is not possible for many working people. The day could be conveniently begun with faj’r throughout the season otherwise what to do with the one spare hour after fajr and how to sleep through it without getting late is one big summer question for many. Instead of missing my zuhr or just saying it hurrily at the university I could reach home and sometimes heed to my hungry stomach before going for the zuhr prayer. And many others enjoyed similar conveniences. There are positives and negatives in everything; it depends on us which kind of focus we like to choose.
My thoughts exactly, you have given a wonderful explanation!
I loved the long afternoons where all my left over jobs and even the kids homework can finish before maghrib
It’s a pity. Though the power savings are debatable, DST left so much time for outdoor activities and would be especially useful in the short winter days. Wish they would switch to GMT +6 all year around.
it’s 5th of october already, am i confused or have they delayed the date for the change?
I should have updated the info provided in this post. The new date for moving the clock back is 1st of November 2009.
well the date has been extended to another month.. the government is trying to puzzle people in their own problems instead of thinking any thing of wrongdoings commited by the government… shame on them..
just looting the nation…
