<p>Ladies get ready to pay <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">zakat</a> (Purifying charity) on your jewels (assessories!!!). Abu Hanifah held that it is obligatory to pay <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">zakat</a> (<a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakah/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakah">zakah</a>) on adornment if it has attained the conditions of reaching the threshold amount (nisab) of zakatable wealth and passing of a full Islamic lunar year, uninterrupted. (uninterrupted in the sense that at no point during that period does the amount of money drop to zero. However, if it drops below the Nisab without disappearing completely, the year is not considered to be interrupted as long as the amount is over the Nisab at the period-end.)</p>
<p>If you are the owner of jewels in the zakatable amount I have seen ladies around me paying <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">zakat</a> in the month of Ramadan every year. (which is not neccessary, it should be once a year whenever the year of your possession completes). Gold is an asset and when we go to buy gold jewels, they are weighed accurately by the seller. In the same way I think we should take great care when paying <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">zakat</a> on the jewellery. First thing is to get it accurately weighed and then calculate the amount to be payed.</p>
<p><strong>Method of Calculating <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">Zakat</a> on jewels:</strong><br />
The method of calculating <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakah/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakah">zakah</a> on jewellery is to have them weighed and then determine the value of that amount of gold/silver. This value must then be added to the other zakatable assets and 2.5% of the total paid in <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakah/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakah">zakah</a>.</p>
<p><strong>Narratives of the Prophet (pbuh) regarding <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">zakat</a> on jewelry:</strong><br />
Two women with gold bracelets on their wrists came to the Prophet, upon whom be peace. The Prophet said, “Do you want God to make you wear bracelets of fire on the Day of Judgment?” They answered, “No.” He said, “Then pay the <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">zakat</a> which is due on what you wear on your wrists.”</p>
<p>In the same way, Asma&#8217; bint Yazid reported:<br />
My aunt and I, while wearing gold bracelets, went to the Prophet, upon whom be peace. He asked, ‘”Did you pay their <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">zakat</a>?” She related that they had not. The Prophet said, “Do you not fear that God will make you wear a bracelet of fire? Pay its <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">zakat</a>.”</p>
<p>Al-Haythami confirms that it was narrated by Ahmad, and its chain is good. &#8216;Aishah narrated,<br />
The Messenger of God, upon whom be peace, came to me and saw me wearing silver rings. Thereupon, he asked, “What is this, &#8216;Aishah?” I replied, “I made them to adorn myself for you, O Messenger of God.” He said, “Did you pay their <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">zakat</a>?” I said, “No, or what God wishes.” Then he said, “Their punishment in Hell is enough for you.”</p>
<p><strong>Nisab:</strong><br />
Nisab for gold is 20 mithqal = 2.81 troy oz.= 87.48g<br />
Nisab for silver is 200 dirhams = 19.69 troy oz = 612.36g (~$)<br />
2.5% on the amount present at lunar year-end.<br />
Gold and silver jewelry is zakatable, as are gold and silver utensils.<br />
Loans to others are zakatable provided they are guaranteed.</p>
<p><strong>Views of Sheikh of Bin Baaz regarding payment to <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">zakat</a>(<a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakah/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakah">zakah</a>):<span id="more-1937"></span><br />
</strong></p>
<p>Gold is the thing upon which <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">Zakat</a> must be paid, even if it is simply for wearing. As for the precious stones, such as pearls, diamonds and so forth, there is no <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">Zakat</a> on them. If a necklace, for example, has both gold and these other stones, the woman, her husband or guardian then must ponder the matter and try to estimate the amount of gold or give it to an expert to estimate it. It is sufficient to be fairly certain about the matter [and one need not be exact]. If the amount of the<em>nisab </em>is reached, <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">Zakat</a> must be paid. The <em>nisab</em> is twenty <em>mithqaals</em>.. which is ninety-two grams. The <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">Zakat</a> is to be paid every year [once a year]. The amount is 2.5%. For example, on one thousand, a person pays twenty-five. This is the correct opinion among the views of the scholars. If the jewelry is for business purposes, then one pays <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">Zakat</a> on all of it, including pearls and diamonds, according to their [market] value, which is the same with all types of merchandise goods. This is the opinion of the majority of the scholars.</p>
<p>He further writes:</p>
<p>There is no harm in a woman paying the <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">Zakat</a> of her jewelry or other <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">Zakat</a> to her husband if he is poor or is in debt and he is not able to pay off the debt, according to the strongest of the opinions among the scholars. This opinion is based on the generality of the evidences, including Allah&#8217;s statement,</p>
<p>&#8220;<a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">Zakat</a> are only for the poor and the indigent&#8230;&#8221; <strong>(al-Tauba 60</strong>).</p>
<p>A Muslim may not give his <a href="http://www.pakistanihousewife.com/tag/zakat/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with zakat">Zakat</a> to his parents or to his children. But, in fact, it is obligatory upon him to spend on their behalf from his own wealth if they are in need of it and he has the ability to spend on their behalf.</p>
